The Leader in Me is a whole-school leadership model from Franklin Covey Education, empowering every A.B.A.T. student to find their voice and lead their own learning.
Brief
The Leader in Me is a whole-school transformation model and process developed by Franklin Covey Education. It empowers students with the leadership and life skills they need to thrive in the 21st century. Based on Stephen R. Covey’s book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, the program helps schools create a culture where every student discovers their inner leader and learns to take responsibility for their own learning, choices, and actions.
The Leader in Me Framework focuses on three main pillars:
Leadership
Empowering every student to find their voice, set goals, and lead their own learning.
Culture
Creating a positive, inclusive environment where students, teachers, and families feel valued and connected.
Academics
Integrating leadership habits and goal-setting into daily teaching to improve motivation and achievement.
At the center of the process is the Lighthouse Team, a group of teachers, staff, students, and administrators who guide the implementation of The Leader in Me at the school level. The team helps set goals, monitor progress, and celebrate growth, ensuring that leadership becomes part of the school’s identity. Schools that model excellence in leadership and culture can earn the recognition of becoming a Lighthouse School.
The Leader in Me also uses the See–Feel–Do (or See–Do–Get) model of change. This model shows that true transformation starts with a change in how people see themselves and others, which shapes how they feel about their roles, and leads to what they do every day. When students and educators begin to see their school as a place of potential and purpose, they act with greater confidence and collaboration, leading to meaningful and lasting results.
Overall, The Leader in Me helps schools grow beyond academics, building a culture of leadership, accountability, empathy, and lifelong learning for all.
