Grading System
How learning is assessed and reported across A.B.A.T. cycles — continuous assessment, end-of-term exams, and clear promotion standards.
Assessment is designed to identify and develop each learner’s potential. We believe that every learner has the right to succeed according to their abilities while developing essential twenty-first-century skills, including creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
This principle guides all decisions related to student assessment and promotion. Assessment therefore serves as an ongoing process that identifies each learner’s level of achievement, reinforces areas of strength, and addresses areas requiring further development.
Here are some of the basic principles implemented in educational assessment:
- The academic year is divided into three terms.
- The passing grade is 11 out of 20 in all subjects and across all terms.
- To encourage active engagement, participation accounts for 10% of the final grade and is recorded on the student’s report card.
- Two main forms of assessment are used: Continuous Assessment and End-of-Term Assessment.

Weights by educational cycle
Every cycle keeps the same 40% / 60% split. Continuous assessment includes written tests, Daily Performance Assessments (DPA), and class participation — weighted differently by cycle.
Cycles 1 and 2
Grades 1 to 6
- Trimestral Exam 40%
- Continuous Assessment 60%
Number of Daily Performance Assessments per term depends on weekly sessions:
- 2 assessments 2 sessions or fewer
- 3 assessments 3–4 sessions
- 5 assessments 5–6 sessions
- 7 assessments 7–8 sessions
Cycle 3
Intermediate grades
- Trimestral Exam 40%
- Continuous Assessment 60%

Secondary grades
